I Need a Dog

Our dog, Ottawa, died of Lyme's disease last year and the house hasn't been the same since. I still miss his sweet face and we have to sweep under the kitchen table now after every meal. Ottawa was a Miniature Pincher and he was just about perfect.
Lately I've been wanting a new dog, especially since my friend Anita brought home a beautiful brindle colored boxer puppy.
I've been looking at all the breeds to figure out which would be best for our family. I don't like big dogs and I really don't like hairy/shedding. We have lots of kids in and out, so it would have to do well with kids of all ages and not be too fragile.
Anyone have a suggestion?

We have 2 Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, but they are long haired and tend to shed so they are probably not for you. The last dog Guilo was a Pomeranian and I highly recommend the breed, he hardly she and got along great with just about everyone.

I read somewhere that Miniature Pinchers can be "just about perfect" :)

We have 2 maltese dogs...They are small and can be fragile but we have 4 kids and things are fine. They do have loooooong hair but don't shed. They are very loving animals.

I think you should go for a spider monkey.

Hey Kate,
We are getting a male rat terrier, the medium size 8-10 pounds, once they are big enough. He should do well with Larry our 3 year old boxer, and may even be the pack leader according to what some of the books say. Larry is the leader type anyhow haha. Read up on them, they are a great sounding dog and will take care of any rat or mice problems the country living can have. They are champion raters.

Love,
James good looking bro. :-)

Yeah...lol...you can take one of my mutt-puppies. They were born in December and all but one are short hair. They'll probably wind up at 35-40 lbs.

Seriously tho, why not another Min-Pin?

We used to have one and he was great with kids.

Personally, I think dogs are harder to handle than kids. But the vacuum factor is a plus in the dog direction.

We once had a Min Pin, but she was super-hyper. Later, we had a minature dachschund, and that dog was the best family dog ever. So sweet and friendly, and playful without being crazy. I recommend dachshunds, and I'm not a dog person.

You should get a chinese crested...they don't shed at all because they are bald! (although I do think you might have to put sunscreen on them to go outside)
