Rise and Shine

I have many friends who are concerned about what their family eats. They are careful to select foods that don't have a lot of additives or sugar, etc. I'm not one of those kinds of people. My favorite breakfast growing up for many years (seriously, ask my mom) was the chocolate Pop Tarts with the vanilla frosting- washed down with grape juice containing almost zero real juice. It was great. It started my day with a wild sugar high that made me feel good. I got excellent grades and was never overweight (you can ask my mom about that too, although she made have forgotten about the excellent grades). Now as a mom I provide much of the same breakfasts to my own children. Here's the current cereal pick at our house.

Friends who send their kids here to spend the night (or week) probably know what we serve for breakfast. I've had kids from families with real healthy eating habits open the cereal cabinet and feel guilty just for looking at it. I do make some of my kids use skim milk...unless they really hate it.
Breakfast of champions!!

Okay, I had to laugh. I DID almost cringe when I saw Cookie Crisp cereal in your lot.

My son recently did a Desires of Your Heart Project. It was pretty random and one of the desires of his heart? You guessed it....Cookie Crisp cereal. I just can't. I will do the Apple Jacks and Fruit loops and such. Even Lucky Charms (when it's cheap) and Fruity Pebbles. but I just C-A-N-T buy something to eat for breakfast titled Cookie something.

Which is odd, because I adore cookies. I guess that makes me a hypocrite?

Lucky Charms in the Mornin' mom? Breakfast being the most important meal of the day, you might as well enjoy it right? Of course now I have Kashi (sticks and rocks) and yogurt, but I do really miss those sugar cereal days!

My kids have asked for cake or ice cream for breakfast - to which I have said NO - and done a double take realizing that I am instead offering poptarts or sugary cereal. What is the difference?
Two of my kids don't really care about breakfast - but Kaitlyn must have cereal the second she opens her eyes - and through no righteous example of mine - she loves honey nut cheerios and rice krispies the best!
Go figure!

I am so with you. I love Cap'n crunch, especially the PB. I do for cost sake buy the Malt-O-Meal in the bag cereal. It drives Tav crazy and so I buy Cheerios and Corn Chex for when he is home to see us eat breakfast. For Julie, I do on occasion (when we have it) let the kids it cake and pie for breakfast. It has eggs and milk and fruit in it.

Fruity Pebbles and Lucky Charms would make my top ten favorite list! Awesome breakfast.

Half of my family can not stomach eating anything for breakfast.
When I was at Shepherd I would sometimes bring the kids to the dining room for breakfast. At that time I had never bought cocoa-puffs and rarely any cereal other than cheerios, chex, total, and a very occasional sweetened un-chocolate cereal. Ricky chose a big container of cocoa puffs and as he was sitting there, eating his cocoa puffs, in earshot of everyone he sighed and said "this just soothes my soul."
Well, I am not one to deny soul soothing, so I must confess that I have taken to buying cocoa-puffs from time to time. But it has never been the same in my pantry as it was as a treat at those breakfasts.
If we have left over cake or cheesecake or pie I always let my kids have it for breakfast. It is better than donuts :)
And those here who drink milk never drink skim milk because they think it tastes terrible. The ones that drink no milk at all don't seem to be thinner or fatter than the ones who do. Maybe its all about variety, quantity and exercise.
I recently saw a really cool painting that was an all the sugsr-cereals and their icons (like the trix bunny). It was very colorful and cool looking. HGTV I believe.

We used to love to eat those ALL THE TIME and then the kids would not eat supper either. I also have 1 kid who eats all the marshmallows out of Lucky Charms and we would get the rest. We do not eat cereal very much any more as we are kinda sick of it. We are sick of Pop Tarts too now, we are working on Euntemens donuts for breakfast now. I know what you mean about when kids stay over and see all those cereal boxes that they never get. Once I had a boy get sick and throw up after staying with us. Sugar toxin I think.

I don't see any Peanut Butter Crunch there!!!
I allow my kids to have sugar cereal too. I ate it as a kid and still enjoy it today. I have friends who are scandalized when they find out what we have in the house. Oh well--there are regular Cheerios if their kids insist on them when they visit! My little guy likes those mixed up with his Apple Jacks.
